I have remote desktop functionality between my home
computer(Windosw XP home edition) and my office with
(Windows Pro) but not the other way. Is there something
inheritently stopping this from happening between the two
different versions or something else?

The problem is you can not use a XP Home machine as a Remote Desktop host. An alternative is
UltraVNC and its encryption client if you want to access/control your XP Home machine from the
office. VNC uses TCP Port 5900 if the XP Home machine is behind a firewall/NAT/router.
