Recommendations wanted Camcorder to VCD

I have an HP Pavilion (a336n) and a Samsung SCD103 camcorder. The camcorder
has firewire and USB outputs while the PC has only a USB input. I'd like to
send videos of my children to my dad and brother on the other side of the
country on VCDs rather than VCR tapes. I don't want to video edit and I
haven't time to learn a whole lot of stuff about format conversions etc.
What I'd like to be able to do is connect the camcorder to the PC, set the
timer and come back when a VCD worth of data has moved then load a blank CD
and make aVCD.

Browsing this group suggests that:
1. I might be able to buy and install a add-on card that would give me a
firewire connection so I could use Windows Movie Maker to make an AVI file
that HP Memories Disk Creator could put on a VCD. Quality and complexity is
an issue here.
2. I might be able to buy (or download) a conversion program to convert the
WMV file created by Windows Movie Maker to AVI format. Again quality is an
issue.
3. I could write the WMV file to a CD and let the family view it on their
own computers. Not as handy for them.

1. Buy a basic firewire card. Anywhere from 30-80 bucks depending on where
and what brand.

2. Examine the entry level products from Sony, Ulead, Nero Ultra, ect. These
are typically one stop, wizard based products that will capture your video
from the camcorder, let you do some quick and simple editing, then let you
select from a list how you want it output.

Are these VCD's intended to be played in their DVD player or on their
computer? If on a DVD player, then the advise above it valid. If on a
computer, then just sending them the files from Windows MM would suffice.
