I have an HP Pavilion (a336n) and a Samsung SCD103 camcorder. The camcorder
has firewire and USB outputs while the PC has only a USB input. I'd like to
send videos of my children to my dad and brother on the other side of the
country on VCDs rather than VCR tapes. I don't want to video edit and I
haven't time to learn a whole lot of stuff about format conversions etc.
What I'd like to be able to do is connect the camcorder to the PC, set the
timer and come back when a VCD worth of data has moved then load a blank CD
and make aVCD.
Browsing this group suggests that:
1. I might be able to buy and install a add-on card that would give me a
firewire connection so I could use Windows Movie Maker to make an AVI file
that HP Memories Disk Creator could put on a VCD. Quality and complexity is
an issue here.
2. I might be able to buy (or download) a conversion program to convert the
WMV file created by Windows Movie Maker to AVI format. Again quality is an
issue.
3. I could write the WMV file to a CD and let the family view it on their
own computers. Not as handy for them.
