I'm looking for recommendations on software to create slideshows that
can be played in stand alone DVD units. Looking for a package that has
a selection of transitions between photos and the ability to record
audio tracks as the slideshow is playing.

At this point I'm not looking for anything high end, the $100 or less
range is where I'm hoping to be.

I've looked at the following two products currently on the market:
Vegas Movie Studio+DVD -$99
MyDVD Studio v6 - $69
Any thoughts or comments would greatly be appreciated.

Thanks

As much as I know people hate Micro$oft software, I actually had a
semi-good experience with Microsoft Plus! Digital Media Edition. It
allows a stable platform for simple to slightly complicated projects.
It allows you to play music during the slideshow as well as to allow
individual voice comments for each picture. Uses fade/pan/zoom
effects. http://www.microsoft.com/windows/plus/dme/dmehome.asp - The
price point isn't too bad at a mere $19.95. You also recieve some
other semi-useful applications.

If anyone feels otherwise towards this program feel free to share your
comments about it with me, I am interested in other peoples opinions,
just keep it reasonable ;).

Also, I'm not sure how applicable it is to DVD playback.. I believe it
generates .wmv files which are a pain in the butt to convert. (If
anyone has good information on how to convert .wmv files for usuage on
DVD players that would be awesome!) My DVD player will play some
Windows Media format files but since Micro$oft updates their codec so
often I'm not sure if it works with Microsoft Plus! Digital Media
Edition.. Anyway, that's my 2 cents worth..

The 'Nero Burning Rom Ultra' does a good job for slide shows including
authoring, to include several, selectable slideshows on the same DVD.
