I have two XP Home machines that I need to VPN through
for file sharing. I have a Linksys BEFVP41 VPN router.
The thing is, XP does not offer an authencation server.
It works great with a server, but how do you get it to
work with 2 client machines. I have tried everything. I
have downloaded SSH Sentinel, and connected to the VPN
router, but I was not able to ping anything behind the
gateway? So I could not map a drive to a static IP
address to access the files. Help I have spent so many
man hours on this to try and figure it out.

Can you clarify the scenario bit more?

XP provides in-built authenticaiton mechanism. Why do you need seperate
authentication server?
