NTSC capture from PAL VCR on Hauppauge PVR

I'm in the UK with a Hauppauge PVR 250 and a PAL VCR. The VCR seems to
quite hapily play NTSC tapes, but I think it's doing that PAL60 thing
where it's not "proper" NTSC, but the TV can cope with it anyway.

The card is supposed to be able handle both PAL and NTSC through
S-Video or composite:

http://www.hauppauge.com/html/wintvpvr_datasheet.htm

"The WinTV-PVR-pci has a TV tuner for either PAL or NTSC (specific to
your region). Composite or S-Video inputs can be from either PAL or
NTSC."

But I only get sound when I wire up the VCR to the S-Video input on
the card and play an NTSC tape. I guess the card only supports true
NTSC or true PAL.

Does anybody know any way I could get this setup to work? Thanks for
any help!

Capture in PAL in raw uncompressed format and then encode to NTSC with
AVISynth.

If this card is like most others you are asked to install software as per
your video standard, and then the device uses that standard only. In order
to use it as NTSC you would have to install the compliant software. Or, it
may be that when you attempt to capture you need to change the input
settings accordingly. Many programs offer capture for NTSC or PAL but cannot
use opposite settings to capture for the opposite standard.
