MPEG Files Cutoff

I have an odd problem. I have some MPEG files from my camera, that I've
transferred over to my laptop, but when played, for instance a 10
second clip, any media player recognizes it as only 2 second clip, but
after the end mark it continues to play the remaining 8 seconds. This
poses a problem when I go to work with it in Premiere, it mangles the
audio and dosen't turn out too pretty. It isn't the files, because I
transferred them to my desktop, and they work fine there. If anyone has
come across this or has a solution to this problem, your help will be
appreciated.

Thanks very much.

This is what I would try: demultiplex the mpeg with mpeg-vcr, then
re-multiplex. Or just open in that same program, then save again.
Looks absurd, but I have managed to repair this sort of problems at
times just by using mpeg-vcr.
