Going from windows xp remote desktop connection to another windows xp
machine, I have a bad refresh rate when say typing in notepad or something.
It does ok if going from window to window but when typing, it takes sometimes
15-30 seconds to refresh the application window. Both machines have a
broadband connection by the way with one on a T1 and the other on DSL.

I've already set experience down to modem 28.8 and display to 256 colors and
turned off all local device mapping to remote machine. What else can I do if
anything?

I keep experiencing the same problem. May be its
something inherent with XP. I have been searching all
over the web to find any solution for my problem for the
past month. No luck so far.

I think it is inherent to the connection, rather than XP, myself. Have you
tried other remote access solutions across the same connection?
