gave my old Toshiba PDR4 to a friend, she has an IBM Laptop with
windows 95. Although she has a USB port, we could not download the
pictures from the camera. We found a yellow exclamation mark in the
device manager under the USB port when we connected the camera. In the
manual it says, it would need preinstalled windows 98.
Anyone has an idea if there is something to be done about that???

Windows 95 (& 98 I think?) did not come with USB support. You will have to
install a newer Dos or a driver for USB ports possibly that came with the
USB hardware device.

It is next to impossible to make USB work on Windows 95.

The first reliable system for USB support is Windows 98 SE.

It is possible to upgrade the OS to Windows 98 SE.

certain versions of 95 do support USB at best it is patchy version 2.5 did
work with my old Tosh but I returned it under warranty when the camera
refused to download! and replaced it with an Olypus Camedia, for the Tosh
you can get additional drivers and a firmware update at
http://www.toshiba.com/taisisd/isd_svc/svcdsc/drivers.shtml
you will also need the usb patch M$ no longer support 95 and are being shall
we say "dog in a manger" so look at
http://www.usbman.com/Win95%20USB%20Guide.htm
good luck Derek

Thanks for the suggestions, read the manual once more, there is also a
cable with serial port available, will try my luck this way if I am
able to find one.
