PVR RECOMMENDATION

I'd like to buy a PVR to watch & record TV on my computer. My plan is
to burn DVDs and /or viewable CDs to watch on my laptop on my boat.
The only two I know of are AverMedia and WinTV. Which is better? Which
model is best?
Is there another brand that is better than these two?
Also, how much space does a half hour of recorded TV take on my hard
drive?
BTW, I'm a newbie, so I need something simple.
Thanks in advance.

I've got an old ATI All-In-Wonder 7500 video card that works great for that.
The more current versions of the card primarily improve upon the gaming
features of the card.
