I have Win2K w/Remote Desktop Client dial-in to Internet.
My mother has XP w/wireless DSL and have turned on Remote
Desktop. Can my Win2K machine connect to XP remote
desktop? She has a wireless router and so XP is using NAT
w/192.168.0.5 address, so what IP address do I specify in
my RD Client to connect to?

Dan,

On your PC, you would specify the IP address your mother's ISP allocates to
the wireless router. However, you will need to configure the wireless router
to pass through communications the RDP port: TCP/3389. This will point to
192.168.0.5. The specific configuration of this will depend on the wireless
router.

In order to find out the IP address currently allocated to, on your mother's
pc, open Internet explorer and go to:

http://www.whatismyip.com/

Please be aware though that the ISP may and probably will change the IP
address allocated to your mother's Internet connection. A simple way to get
around this is to sign up for a dynamic DNS service that will automatically
map the changing IP address of your mother's internet connection to a name.

Please also be aware that opening remote desktop to the outside world is a
potential security risk. A strong suggestion it to make sure that your
mother's pc has no guest accounts enabled and that as a minimum, strong
passwords are used for all accounts.
