It is useful for a long multi-page thread, so you can sort /filter in various ways.

It's not useful. That is what page number and orange read/unread lights are for.

yes except page number , unlike the old board, Doesn't show where your last unread post is.

Or something so we can tell which page to open. Some of these threads go so fast with people using them instead of IM (which is fine w/me since I don't use IM) that 2 or 3 pages have filled up, and if I pick the wrong page, the read flag is set on all pages so I have to use date/time (with limited success).

Replacing the last poster column with "First Unread Post" would be a great and very useful feature.
