I am getting the above error with the 'eject cassette' symbol
flashing. According to the manual, I should eject the cassette and
reload it, which I have done several times. The problem persists. Can
anybody help me? Thanks in advance for the help

For C31 errors, my Sony manual also suggests disconnecting the power
(both battery and AC) from the camcorder for a while. You might try
that.

It might be worth removing and replacing the memory battery, if
possible (while the AC or battery power is disconnected). You will have
to reenter all personal settings - such as time/date, exposure mode,
etc. - if you do this.

1 try a different cassette
2 - take the battery off and put it back on again - see if the camera has a
"reset" button
