DVD recording - transcoding question

Currently I'm using Roxio Easy Media Creator to burn DVD's of teachers
digital videos. The files are in mpeg-1 format. Is there a better
program to burn DVD's or at least a faster way to encode videos. If
not a faster way, is there a way I can encode multiple videos (as in a
schedule) so when I get twenty videos to burn to twenty videos, I can
set them up to encode, then just burn the DVD.
