Hi --

I have a user in my office who is connecting to her machine remotely
(running XP Pro). She would like to be able to print from her office machine
to her home printer. I am confused about what drivers need to be installed
where to mkae this work. Do I need to have her install the printer drivers
for the office printer at her home, or do I need to install her home printer
drivers on her office machine?

I also have not specifically allowed to disallowed remote printer
redirection on her machine. From what I have read, printer redirection is
allowed by default on XP but can be turned of via Group Policy. Our network
is a Windows 2003 Domain but the group policy editor is much different in
2003 Server than it was in 2000 and I am having trouble finding the Terminal
Services GPO on the 2003 machine. Can someone help me find my way to this to
check the settings for remote desktop printer direction?

Thanks,

Rich

The printer drivers for the home printer need to be installed on both
machines, even though the printer is not connected to the work PC. When the
RDP connection is made, provided the client has checked the option to use
local printers before logging on, the default printer for the session on the
work PC will be the one at home. The redirection is achieved down the RDP
pipe: it is not necessary to share the printer over the network, or anything
like that.
