Hello:

I would like to convert my video files to Divx. In order to convert
them with mp3 audio, I must run them through Virtualdub.

I have been exporting them from Premiere as a Divx with uncompressed
audio, and then running them through Virtualdub to compress the audio.

I would like to do all of the compression in one step - all through
Virtualdub. The problem is that I don't know what format to save my
AVI file in when using Premiere. I don't want Premiere to have to do
any processing. I just want it to save the file. When I try saving I
click Export --> Movie --> Microsoft DV.

Virtualdub can't read that file type. So - what should I pick? Oh, I
would like to de-interlace the AVI. I guess I have been doing that.
Thanks.

I suspect that having a vfw DV codec might fix your problem. Theres
an older free Panasonic DV codec out there somewhere. Canopus also
has a free decoder on their website somewhere. There are some others
out there too.

alternatively, you could save the video as an uncompressed (if you
have alot of HDD space) or better yet, download the Huffyuv codec and
save the video as huffyuv (even better) provided premiere lets you do
that.

As for deinterlace, I know theres a filter in Vdub called
"deinterlace" that does just that. I perfer an IVTC when possible
myself.

That may have to do with the DV type. DV can be type-1 (which is not
good for Avi) and type-2 (which is a true Avi), and there are
conversion programas (from Ulead, from Canopus, may be from others)
from type-1 to type-2.

But you might better export to Huffyuv, which is a lossless codec, and
VirtualDub shall read it without complain.
