Is there any software to reliably output a video file (DivX, Huffyuv,
Mpeg whatever) over TV out, for example for recording to tape?

Media players are no good, they always skip or double frames now and
again and some are worse than others... and when it comes to interlaced
material, forget it.

I figure it would have to use the 3D hardware to get reliable synced
page flipping and buffer a few seconds ahead... but I fear no such
software exists. Somebody needs to write it!

It wouldn't be difficult for any writer familiar with 3D programming
and DirectShow, just nobody has thought to I guess... I don't have the
ability or knowledge myself.

Nobody keeps you from trying to make what nobody else could. Good
luck!

Possibly a video editing package. ?

I was not aware that writing a video out to vcr deck was really a
problem.

When outputting to video tape, I convert the video to DV (if it wasn't
already in DV format for editing) and use my ADVC-100 to output to
video. Works perfect everytime.
