Is there a way to log the initial connection conversation that a client has
with a server (or vice versa)? I'm getting a generic timeout error that can
be any number of problems, but it's too generic to help much (I'd even take
a COM error code!)

The only logging I know about is illustrated on this page...It includes the use of the Port Reporter
tool...
