XP firewire problem with DHR-1000

I have been going through firewire . lately. I have owned and used a Sony
digital VCR that accepts both the large (120 and 180 min.) DV tapes. I have
been unable to use this VCR with my current Windows operating system.
Before when I had Windows 2000 installed and was able to use this VCR via
firewire without problems. I now have "upgraded to Windows XP Professional
version 5.1.2600 Service Pack 2 Build 2600. I am using American Megatrends
BIOS version 2.3.

When I plug newer devices into my firewire card like hard drives and newer
Sony cameras, they seem to work just fine. When I connect my Sony DHR-1000
via the firewire connection and turn on the unit - Windows first pops up the
"found New Hardware Wizard". The wizard is offering to help me install -
"AV/C Tuner". This is a Sony VCR! Windows 2000 never offered to install
drivers. When I cancel the Wizard windows tells me that the device may not
work correctly. Windows is certainly correct in that regard. I have not
been able to use Vegas Video 5 or Scenalyzer with this product. If I try to
capture with Scenalyzer, I get an error message that says - "Error can't
connect:336". Nothing works because Windows can't make the connection.

I know that this VCR works just fine because I just connected it to another
computer running Windows 2000. Device control and capture work just as
advertised using Vegas Video 5 or Scenalyzer.

Some said that the newer (sp2) firewire drivers caused firewire HD to slow.
I tried both the sp2 and the sp1 drivers and found them very close as far as
speed goes using Scenalyzer. Results = Sp2 speed was 6.7 times realtime and
SP1 driver speed was 6.8 times realtime.

I would really appreciate any suggestions that might help me. I know that
this is an older piece of equipment but if it works with Windows 2000, then
surly it can be made to work with windows XP. Are there some drivers that I
am missing?
