Hi

I have two JVC camcorders, a DVL-120 and a GR DX77. When paused both of them
will power off after a few min in record. Good for battery life, but they
power down and can't be started with the remote even when on AC power. I'd
like to set up a camera on a tripod and use the remote to turn it on maybe
15 min later. Any good workaround? Do all brands of consumer minidv
camcorders work this way? The alternative is to use LP to get longer record
time but that may have it's own drawbacks.

Do you really need instant record ? If not...
Any chance of using the A/V out to a VHS recorder ? All MiniDv camcorders
as far as I know power off after a few minutes if they are loaded with tape
(so as to protect the tape and the heads). So, remove tape from camcorder,
use mains power via the adapter (disable Demo mode if necessary), and record
on a domestic recorder if that's possible.
My guess is that the latest solid state mini camcorders don't suffer from
this problem.
(Or use a webcam and record to your hard drive. The webcam software may
include an application which auto senses the video - good for catching
intruders ?) Or try security gadgets at Maplin.

Instead of pausing the camera why not switch the camera off with the
remote control if this is possible then switch the camera on with the
remote control 15 minutes later.
