video camera advice

I'm looking to purchase a video camera to make my second dvd. I am
sort of overwhelmed at all the different kinds of cameras.

I'm looking for a camera that doesn't burn directly to dvd. One that
works well with low lighting. One that will record without holding a
button. One that records in a format that I can edit or use windows
movie maker with.

What software goes with it? Do I need to purchase movie editing
software? What is everyone else using?

Any advice would be appreciated. Just email me at princessbbw28 @
AOL.com (all together, of course)
Just something that will work, price range.. $400 give or take.

Ok, since you mention $400 dollar range in your message, I'm assuming your
just beginning and are creating a basic DVD. Like videos of the kids plays
or family functions, stuff like that.

At the $400 dollar range I don't know if any of the camcorders really stand
out. You can probably get one of the older Digital 8 camera for a good price
cause they will usually be closeouts. The Sony's are decent camera's and do
decent in low light. Not great, but decent. Otherwise, go for a Mini DV.

If you want to edit, you will need a firewire port in your PC to transfer
the tape to computer. Movie Maker will do basic editing but you don't say
what our final output intention is so hard to recommend anything really. You
might explore the various under $100 software packages that are all in one.
Capture, Edit, Author to DVD solutions.

Samsung makes a very nice MiniDV, model SCD103, which is under $400. I've
had mine for about a year now and have used it for family and vacations. I'm
very pleased with the results I have gotten. I also use Pinnacle Studio for
the capture and editing.
