I've been testing the new XPSP2 GoOfflineOnSlowLink feature and,
although the remote client detects the link and goes offline as
desired, a few seconds later the offline mode indicator (small
computer icon in the systray / Notification Area) changes to the
online/ready to sync version (with the small blue "i" ) and when moused
over, says "Computer(s) available for reconnection".

Slow link speed Group Policy has been set as high as 100 Mbps
(10000000 in the policy if I'm not mistaken), but has not prevented
this from happening. Ping response (with 2048 sized packets) is
roughly 145ns in the test I used. Home office link to the internet is
about 6 Mbps, remote at 10 Mbps, tunnelled together via VPN. I have
also turned on the sync at logon and logoff, which both seem to
execute despite the speed policy. I've tried setting the link speed
manually in the registry at HKLM\software\microsoft\windows\current
version\netcache\SlowLinkSpeed, as the GPO sets it at
HKLM\software\microsoft\policies\windows\netcache\SlowLinkSpeed, but
to no avail.

Should this not stay fully offline if the speed policy is set
sufficiently high? The goal is to assure that synchronization only
occurs when traveling users return to the local network or force it
manually when remote. Home office link to the internet is about 6
Mbps, remote at 10 Mbps, tunneled together via VPN.

Thanks,
-D.
