Err, just bought PSU from NewEgg with free shipping. Will be here monday. It was an Antec 550 watt TruePower and total price was $74.99 to my door.
Do you think ZZF could beat that?
November 20, 2005 11:38:45 PM

You people are American so who cares if newegg or ZZF your still getting lower prices than the rest of the world. Suck it up and pay some shipping.

They both charge tax. There are other alternatives. Nonetheless, with Newegg's current shipping prices they aren't very competative anymore. At least not to my neck of the woods.

they both charge tax TO YOU, i dont get charged tax for either....i have ordered many things from Newegg and i dont think i have ever had tax, and ZZF i have had one order...so maybe i dunno.
November 21, 2005 4:09:26 AM

You pay tax because they have a business location in your state, California. I'm in Texas where they don't, so I don't.
November 21, 2005 4:37:18 AM

I understand this. I think Newegg only charges tax for NJ, CA, and TN, but that's only a small part of the problem. My problem with them is that their shipping has gone to shite.
November 21, 2005 5:14:28 AM

VERY TRUE!!

I dont care that they have random shipping amounts like 3.28 and 4.53 and whatnot....usually they are reasonable. Its under 6bucks for just about anythign they have thats not a Case, something big or heavy.

But they will charge you ASAP and sometimes not even get around to boxing your items for 3-4days, so 3day shipping turns into like 7-10day shipping sometimes.
November 21, 2005 9:17:42 AM

THat's what happen when bunch of idiot noob buy stuff and send fully functionning stuff back to newegg because they cannot read the manual and don't plug the 4 pins wire or other simple thing... Or order something then decide that it don't like something and RMA it. This was maybe becoming abusing. Someone has to pay for that. Now, ZZF might get more orders, more stuff sent back. and they will start to charge for shipping.

I'm not american, I don't buy from either NE or ZZF, so I'm not advocating for either one. But I know somebody that work for a computer shop and merchandise return for nothing is pretty high.
November 21, 2005 10:25:09 AM

I ordered Thursday at lunchtime my PSU. It had free 2-3 day shipping, no tax and actrually was shipped out the same day.
The next day I had an email with shipping confirmation and tracking numbers.
Tracking says it will arrive today.
I have no complaints yet with my recent NewEgg order, and the price was the best I could find on it.
Service seemed great! and selection is what I was searching for...
You can't please everyone all the time...

I ordered a printer. Their standard shipping is UPS now and FedEx is suddenly a lot more expensive. UPS kept delivering it when I wasn't home but after the first time I called to have either the address changed to my work address or requested a pickup. They wouldn't allow either per Newegg's stupid contract so after a week (more for a pack of dvd-r's) everything was RMA'd automatically and I never got my order. It was cheaper and less aggravating for me to buy the printer at compusa *faints* than newegg.
November 21, 2005 1:51:09 PM

I go newegg for the service. From all the RMA services out there, Newegg is one of the best. ZZF have been a pain in my past exp. Wats the good of 2nd-day air when it usually take them 3-4 days to physically ship it?

You have to pay tax. Because you live in Cal. I don't pay tax from NewEgg.
November 21, 2005 2:43:23 PM

I'm sorry I ever brought up tax. When I don't want to pay tax I buy from other vendors out of state. I understand the way this works.
November 21, 2005 2:45:27 PM

Printer ink cheap thru NewEgg. But when you had in $4 to ship per ink. Amazon cheaper.
November 22, 2005 3:29:48 AM

zipzoomfly is expensive and i dont get charged tax on newegg and newegg is easier to navigate and has more stuff
November 22, 2005 3:36:00 AM

okay guys, regarding shipping

ZZF ONLY CHARGE TAX TO AK AND HAWAII AND ITS SHIPPING DOES NOT EXCEED $$$$$$$$10$$$$$$$$$$ EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

so for ak and ha residents don't buy from zzf for small orders.

Also, ZZF uses Fedex, which is way way way better than UPS!!!!
November 22, 2005 4:03:09 AM

OK but ZZF did not have my TruePower 2 550watt Antec for 74.99 like NewEgg did with free shipping and no tax!
So NewEgg ROX for that!
November 22, 2005 4:15:14 AM

I thought ZZF charged tax in CA.

Um, NE uses FedEx too.... where have you been? I have ordered 30+ items from NE without a single problem in the shipping! Its fast and reliable. You apparently you have fewer brain cells than orders and don’t realize that:

1) NE's inventory is GIGANTIC compared to ZZF who only caries a few common items.

2) NE's website is a million times better than ZZF... so much easier to use. Its actually professional

3) Even with paying shipping, NE is often cheaper than ZZF (depending on what it is)

4) the one time I went with ZZF and not NE for price reasons they half @$$ed my packing and shipped me a hard drive in an open anti-static bag (what good does that do?) and half filled the box with Styrofoam... that’s what you get for free shipping. Needless to say, it was DEAD when I got it so it cost ME shipping + insurance to send it back and get another one. I have never ordered from ZZF since. That is just unprofessional.

All things considering… I should give you a break because I didn’t know much better when I was 16 either.
November 24, 2005 5:17:00 AM

ive configed 2 computers one on newegg and zip zoomfly
and newegg's one was cheaper. ive bought parts of 3 computers off newegg and even with the shipping it was still cheap. zipzoomfly also has crappy pictures and junk descriptions.

BTW I live in hawaii. so i paid about $50-$70 for shipping

and zipzoomfly doesnt give free shipping on cases.
November 24, 2005 5:25:52 AM

zipzoomfly used to be Googlegear.com now i used to use it alot ... but honestly NEWEGG is a way better site to search and is more easier to find products.

But i will say this #1 the shipping on most stuff on zip zoom is good, but DEFFFFF the prices on Newegg are better, i have counted numerous items that are cheaper on newegg.

so honestly zipzoom is a great site but honestly just search your item on both sites and just see what's better for you.

No-one charges TAX to ship to Alaska, but they certainly do charge more for shipping. I don't know how many times I've ordered something that claimed "Free Shipping," or "Cheap and Fast shipping," or such like, and it turns out that it gets delivered by a guy on foot and costs all kinds of money.

I just bought the following crap from newegg:

Asus SLI mobo
Athlon x2 4200
2x WD Raptors
500W PSU
1.44mb floppy (came free w/ HDDs)

Shipping was $12 for 3 day select UPS. That's a good deal I think.

Shipping as for sure gone to shit... I put my order in on a Sunday and finally got all of my stuuff the fowllowing Friday!! Thats over night shipping? Not in my book.
November 26, 2005 5:24:11 PM

some people do catch a bad break, with newegg, that chance isn't that offen.

Things do happen.. Product out of stock, someone forgot and shipped out late, people make mistakes.

I wouldn't disown newegg anytime soon, there a great site.
November 26, 2005 5:32:55 PM

If you paid extra for overnight shipping then you should have raised a fit with customer service....
November 26, 2005 7:38:54 PM

I did and all they did was give 25 off shipping... Big deal!
November 26, 2005 11:45:22 PM

Like i said people do make mistakes.

I have ordered a rediculous amount of items off newegg and indeed have used the Overnight, and Rushed Shipping and They worked perfectly for the past years for me.

Last time i ordered something from newegg was 100PK of DVD-rs and they came in about 3 days like they said.

For xmas i am ordering a new Gfx Card, Mouse, Flash Drive and some other goodies for myself. I will deffinetly post back on how the shipping and service was.
December 3, 2005 7:13:27 PM

New has the best selection I have seen a several sites. There search engines aslos kick the crap out of any other site of seen. I mean, come on, Zipzoomfly puts their video cards up by RAM amounts! Plus, Newegg is cheaper, so maybe, it all equals out.
December 3, 2005 8:45:23 PM

The thing I dont understand is why wait?
I live in Vancouver, Canada. We have more computer shops than we have Macdonalds. I can go into most of them, and get prices that are cheaper (when S&H is included), get better warranty service, without paying S&H again, and faster. If I want a Dell/gateway equivalent, I'll get something a little more tweakable, for the same cash, and wont have to learn hindi for service.
December 3, 2005 10:47:40 PM

After reading this post I decided to look at zipzoomfly. I noticed a few things almost immediately.

1) the selection isn't even close to that at newegg.com. Unfortunately.

2) On the 3 items I have on my list to order I couldn't easily find them at zipzoomfly.

3) When I found something similiar or the exact item the zipzoomfly price was higher than newegg.com even with shipping (although not 2nd day).

4) On a few items I looked at the site had so many errors I wondered to myself whether this was a con meant to get my credit card info. I read that someone had ordered parts from ZipZoomFly so I'm still not sure.

5) Several items were improperly marked as to their price. For instance, the price of one of their cheapo video cards with 32mb of ddr was 510.00 although clearly it was in the same category listing of the $51.00 cards. Even then $51.00 for a 32mb video card is a bit high.

I noticed the inconsistencies and errors throughout the site and that made me wonder even more. The last thing I want is to have my money stolen because I didn't review things carefully enough and the site turned out to be a scam.

Bottom line the selection wasn't there, the prices weren't considerably lower and at times the newegg.com costs with basic 3day shipping was less than the price of zipzoomfly with 2day shipping.

I personally don't like what they are doing at newegg.com and the prices for shipping are exorbitant. They also tend to mess up orders more frequently and the items I ask to be shipped are more late than not, especially when I choose the UPS shipping option. The UPS guy has left $500+ worth of new parts at an abandoned office door in the building I am located . If they could crack the whip on UPS they'd still beat zipzoomfly in cost and selection.

This string is good entertainment, I laughed several times! I'm sure the quality of delivery services varies by location, probably due to your local office or driver. UPS is vastly better than FedEx delivering to my office near downtown Houston. But they are about the same (both good) delivering to my house in the suburbs. NewEgg gives both as delivery options, which is good. I always check NewEgg first, and for certain items, I also check elsewhere. I usually choose to buy from NewEgg. Spent $340 on three items from NewEgg this week. I used to hate Christmas shopping, driving from store to store, fighting crowds, but ordering online is kind of fun. Unfortunately, my wife has gotten very good at it.

I own a small systems integrator shop and I can't afford mistakes nor can I afford late shipments. I make promises (reasonable promises) to my customers and I need the parts delivered on time.

I have purchased from newegg.com for 3 years now. Most of that time Fed-Ex was the only way they'd ship. I used to get free shipping. One thing I noted over those 3 years was that Fed-Ex was always on time or early. There's no questioning that. I would order, get the tracking number, look at the day it was supposed to arrive and almost always get it a day or two earlier than the expected delivery date.

With UPS, when I began choosing them as the shipper, I would get a tracking number and watch the shipments. They would list a date of expected delivery and 2/3 of the time I used them they missed the date completely. I sent letters to newegg.com and they credited back my shipping costs.

With Fed-Ex I received my orders in the morning, usually by 10am. With UPS I have been receiving them at 5pm. So, even though they may make the delivery they always deliver late in the day which, in the end, results in a day lost.

Of the most recent orders I have made UPS delivered to the wrong location and on one particularly important order they delivered to an empty office in the complex I'm at. I waited all day for the parts and at 5pm I saw that the tracking info said it had been delivered. When I went looking for it I found it outside left on the doorstep of an empty office. My store location is clearly marked with lots of parking.

When the Fed-Ex guys delivered they say hello, talk abit about how I'm doing and wish me a nice day. The UPS guys are almost always late, almost always leave the package instead of delivering it, and even though they could deliver early they never do.

As for the prices and inconsistencies on the zipzoomfly site. Those are indisputable facts. You can go there and see the mistakes. On top of that you can see that the selection is limited and you can see that anyone looking for the best selection for the best prices and shipping newegg.com wins.

I would not have listed these issues if I had not seen them myself and I would not have stated the issues I had with shipping if I had not had them. I'm a businessman, and not some kid buying something that I can afford to wait a day or two longer to get because shipping is late or intentionally held off.

At newegg.com I have the choice of Fed-ex or UPS. It is a matter of who does more and has the better selection and who can get it to me on time. Of the 2 times that newegg.com was late shipping via UPS I had my shipping expenses credited back.

Considering the attitude in your post this tells me not to consider zipzoomfly at this time.

I hope everything isn't entertainment to you and that you don't laugh at everyone and everything. You're going to have problems making friends and influencing people.
December 6, 2005 12:41:47 AM

Jimbo99, I messed up. When I said this string made good entertainment, I was thinking of the entire thread, not your post. I actually thought YOUR post was very informative and well researched. I clicked on yours to reply without thinking, merely because it was the last one. Dumb me.  I apologize for my mistake and for seemingly making fun of your post. I really don’t laugh at everything. If anything, I don’t laugh enough.

Concerning FedEx and UPS, if I reverse your descriptions of their performance, it would closely described their behavior concerning deliveries at my office. The UPS guy is super. The FedEx guy is the one that is late and leaves stuff the wrong place. But like I said, the FedEx guy in the suburbs is just fine.
December 6, 2005 5:00:35 PM

I didn't bother reading the whole thing because I can see it's between zzf and newegg.
In June I built my own computer, half the parts from zzf, half from newegg.
The best part? All the online MIRs I used could be used at either location plus a 3rd. I'm under the impression they're all somewhat related or link back the same place. At least that's my understanding after reading the fine print on the MIRs.
I had a MIR for $20 or $40 off a certain video card. 3 sites were listed as the only ones offering.. zzf, newegg and I forget the 3rd but I think zzf even linked to it at the time.
December 8, 2005 7:47:18 PM

I find zipzoomfly's website much harder to navigate and they seem to have a much smaller selection of products to offer. Also newegg prices, shipping included, are still <= zipzoomfly's prices. go newegg
January 5, 2006 9:23:31 PM

Newegg ,Z,Z,&F I think that they both have gotten fatheaded.I must agree with Jimbo99 and his view on this pretty much sums up my experience with Fedex and UPS.I prefer Fedex over UPS any day.As far as the rising costs too many idiot noob children know about Newegg and send perfectly funtioning hardware back driving up the costs for everyone.I have had terrible experience with dealing with the the C.S personell at Newegg, but Mike Paulus(Newegg) rectified any problems I had.Zip, Zoom &fly only ordered a mobo a some parts, the free 2nd day makes it kinda worthwhile don't know too much about their CS though.
tried to order a 120mm thermaltake fan from em last friday, they do seem like they are somewhat retarded though. I have since went back to my old trusted etailer and only purchase from Newegg or ZZF if I can't find anywhere else.Ha
January 17, 2006 1:20:47 PM

Agree. They were great but I guess they are going corporate. ZZF is cool. Compushaq is giving free shipping on anything over 25 bucks. Best deal I found so far.
January 20, 2006 2:54:16 AM

I have always found great deals at newegg.
Now if you really want to see crap, go to tigerdirect and buy some of the overstated junk there. And wait til you see the shipping charges!!
Newegg is the best there is, period.
January 25, 2006 8:34:46 PM

New Egg does have more items. But ZIPZOOMFLY does have free 2nd day shipping which is awesome.

ZipZoomFly has better prices on a lot of things than NewEgg does...

IE.

NewEgg Antec P180 Case

ZipZoomFly Antec P180 Case

7 dollars cheaper with ZipZoomFly

the shipping on the other hand is better with NewEgg

but i trust FedEx more than UPS

ZIPZOOMFLY majority has free 2nd Day Delivery .. i still go for ZIP ZOOM FLY!!!!!
January 26, 2006 3:37:03 AM

You know they were PC Nuts
February 2, 2006 5:18:02 AM

service? i have never even spoken to a live person there. i will say it again-
Prices are important, but in the long run I rather spend a few extra bux up front to know I can get some help later.... www.nerdny.com I had an issue w/ a RAID card- they got the manufacturer on the phone with me and we rapped an RMA up in 10 minutes. done
