The LCD screen on my digital video camera has stopped working when I try
to record. It still plays back tapes, but recording image is black.
Also get a 'lens cap is on' message when it isn't.

Anyone have similar problems or know what's up?

It sounds like the CCD (the image detector behind the lens) is broken,
or else some of the CCD's supporting circuitry. Does the other
viewfinder (the one with an eyepiece - if your camera isn't a Sharp)
work?

I'd say you need to either take it to a service center or buy a new
one.

No, the viewfinder doesn't work either.

OK, sounds like repair or replace time. It looks to me like the CCD or
its support circuitry is dead. Are you still under warranty?

14 mths, so just out by a couple on months. I'll see if they'll honour
it anyway - goodwill etc (JB Hi-Fi). Thing is I rarely used it -
probably a couple of hrs a month.
