Could anybody tell me how I can add a highlight arrow, or in some way
highlight an individual in a sports video?
Some keywords that might relate to what I'm talking about include
travelling matte, moving path, dodge tool. (I don't know what these
are really.)
I have access to premiere 6, ulead 4.01, and possibly some others. If
you know how to do it in some other software, I'd consider purchasing
that application.
Basically I want an arrow to follow an individual arround on the
video.
I know that sounds pretty tricky. If it can't be done, what about
editing frame by frame? If I made a bitmap of an arrow, could I paste
that frame by frame into my video?
I think creating a title in ulead shows the underlying screen, so I
could possibly place some identification mark in the correct place on
many really short titles?
I really hope someone has a better option for me.

The easiest way I can think of for Premiere is as follows:
1.) Make your arrow graphic in Photoshop on a transparent background.
Save as a PSD file.
2.) Import the PSD into Premiere and lay it on a video track over the
video you wish to highlight. Drag the PSD duration out to match the
video's length.
3.) Go into the position settings for the arrow graphic and move it to
point to your subject as you wish. Mark a key frame for it.
4.) Advance around 10 frames and then reposition the arrow as you
wish. Mark the key frame.
5.) Proceed as above to the end of the segment. When you render the
movie, the arrow should move smoothly from keyframe position to
keyframe position as you laid out, following your subject. If the
motion seems weird, add more keyframes to correct it.
