I use remote desktop to control my pc running winamp and is connected to
home stereo. When sound is not playing and player is initiated in remote
mode sound doesn't come out of remote pc, but does out of computer which
initiated connection.

you can choose where the sound comes out.
click on the button labeled Options,
before you connect to the remote computer.
