Hello all,

i need assistance on a video capture issue.

I use Pinnacle Studio 8 to capture video from an analog camera with a
Hauppauge WinTV card. I get the video input through composite and the
audio through the RCA mono (white) plug. In the capture screen, I am
selecting MPEG/DVD quality.

Problem is: while editing, if I try to playback the scenes, the audio
is extremely *low* (have to turn volume all the way up to hear
anything), with a relatively high background noise, and almost
undecipherable.

If I create an MPEG file, the sound doesn't get any better if played
through windows media player or such. (Note that I get a perfect sound
from MPEGs in general, it's only about those I create from captured
video).

Strangely enough, if I create an AVI file instead, the sound is just as
perfect as the original tape.

Any suggestion about where to look and what to try?

Thanks in advance!
MC

It's been a while since I've used Pinnacle Studio 8 but there is a way
to boost the sound in this program. Take a look at the program manual.

I'll take a look, but I don't think it's anything specifically related
to Pinnacle settings (I think I tried every sound-related setting in
there). I think those would influence AVI too, while the problem only
occurs with MPEG.

(P.S.: I'm also a complete newbie; I got my first video capture card
two weeks ago. So perhaps it's something really stupid I am doing...?)
