Oh.. That thid connection.
First off, you must have a locally logged on session already If no one
logged in locally, the console session doesn't exist. I could be wrong on
that one - I'll let the guru's of this group correct me if I am.
Secondly, start mstsc with the /console switch. That's all.

When I say "switch", I mean COMMAND LINE switch.

If you use winxp with sp3 patch. you will use "mstsc /admin" to login remote desktop with console mode.
