1st network setup, which one???

Last response: in Networking

I currently have 3 computers, 2 with Win2kp and 1 XP pro. 1 is a SCSI and the others are reg IDE's. I want to connect them all for file/internet sharing, I've done alot of reading up on this and am still confuzed. I have a 2.73/MB cable connection and all systems have NIC's.
My question is which and what is the easiest way to connect them up? I read up on the Linksys' BEFSR41, which seems to have privacy issues (confuzed on that one too in a few articles).
Can anyone give me a few suggestions on the most reliable router/hub? I don't want to go wireless yet, way out of my price range at the moment.....gotta love layoffs!
Any information would greatly be appreciated.

Thanks,

Gem

It's kind of down to your needs vs price vs future considerations of service requirements.

Here's a few points to keep in mind:

Firewall? You may run NAT or personal firewalls too.
Built in switch? What's the speed of it and your NICs?
Built in Modem? Cheaper easier option.
Number of ports? Number of PCs.
