Any of the video professionals here have pet projects?

Not talking about food-on-the-table projects but fun stuff you might do just
for kicks when you have spare time.

I did one (took all of an one afternoon) for a friends son who was in a
Karate tournament - some quick titles in a Japanese script, Koto music -
ENTIRELY non-commercial use so I borrowed tracks from commercial sources,
samurai movies etc.

That was more of a favour for a friend but I have a few idea for things of
my own that I haven't gotten around to - one depicting changing seasons
using timelapse taken at different times of year set to Vivaldi's "Four
Seasons". Being in Canada, this is quite dramatic.

For the makers of "Open Water" - that was their pet project until Lions Gate
picked it up.

Just wonderin' aloud. Email me if you'd rather not divulge confidential
details in a newsgroup. :)

If you circulate the video at all, even non-commercially, you can
still get hassled for that. Think of the huge RIAA/MPAA fury over
people noncommercially sharing copies of CD's and movies.

See www.magnatune.com for a wide variety of music that you can use
noncommercially for free and commercially for reasonable fees that
they publish up front on the site.

Well, now right there is a good example of a cool little project.

(dissolve up, happy music under) video of some sap who is making a "silly
home video" with what ever was available and what he could find to learn
some editing skills on his first editing program.

(SFX laughing, cut to) showing his silly film to his friends
(cut to MCU) friends laughing

(SFX knock on door, cut to door)

RIAA/MPAA men dressed in black at door looking dangerous & unhappy

(dramatic music under, cut to) men wrestling on floor fighting for the tape
(SFX crashing, screaming then gunfire)

(cut to) blood on floor

(cut to outside shot) RIAA/MPAA police drive away with man screaming.

(dissolve to graphics) Support the RIAA/MPAA, don't make silly home movies
because we'll hunt you down.

(dissolve to black)
(roll credits)

Hmmmm.....
