It's my understanding the plus version has support for
mpeg2. That's the main thing.
Also it comes with a good HELP system, which I don't think
the free one has.

If you "like it", and think having MPEG2 after the trial period
is something you would also like; is $37 really too much to pay?
I know I've gotten my money's worth with it. This is money
spent on something you know will provide the results you expect,
and that will work in a manner you are comfortable with. How
many times have you risked $40 on something you only Hoped
would work right?
The 3.0 Express has a more user friendly interface. It is supposed
to have improved the encoder itself, but I haven't noticed any big
change.
