audio problem with iMovie4

Previously, I had difficulties exporting from iMovie to the camcorder--
audio was losing sync. Based on online suggestions, I extracted the
audio and it solved the problem by locking picture to audio.

Now suddenly when exporting, some clips lose their audio completely.
The clips in question have all their audio in iMovie, but when exported
to tape, some of these shots are silent. I deleted the extracted
soundtrack, did a new extract, and tried again. Same problem, but with
different clips. Maybe one out of every ten clips is completely
silent.

Have searched the Apple website and newsgroups but can't seem to find
any such problem discussed. Would appreciate any guidance here.
