The 'Invalid sample format 0x80048002' error in TMPGEnc XPress looks to be
caused by an audio codec problem when decoding a video+audio (e.g., .AVI)
input file.

I've seen this problem happen with MP3 audio in an AVI file when ffdshow
<http://sourceforge.net/projects/ffdshow> is installed.

To work around the problem, try the following:

Use Render in GSpot <http://www.headbands.com/gspot/> to find out which audio
codec is being used, and then inhibit the use of that codec by uninstalling,
disabling, or lowering its priority.

In the case of the MP3 codec in ffdshow, all that was needed was to use
ffdshow -> Audio Filter Configuration to set the ffdshow MP3 codec to Disabled
(thus allowing a different MP3 codec to be used for MP3 decoding).
