Lately while editing (Premier 6.5) it seems the the audio will
suddenly increase amplification. I back up on the time line to see if
it will happen again but the audio level is now just that, level. It
seems to be a little louder than before though. The latest phenomena
(sp?) is that the wireless mic seems to not have recorded although I
clearly remember hearing it on the headphones coming from the PD150.
Are these signs that the PD150 needs it's heads cleaned. This is it's
third season and I've done about 40 weddings averaging 6 hours of tape
each. I rewind externally. I'm thinking about doing the 30 second
head cleaning thing with the slightly abrasive cleaning tape. Do
these issues ring any bells with any of you out there? Thanks, Ed

I've had that happen on my office computer while using MS
Media Player. Mine was an OS configuration issue that had
nothing to do with the file itself.

Phenomenon is the singular version of the word.

But you didn't say what (if anything?) DID get recorded?
Was it silence? Was it the on-camera mic? Better analysis
of the symptoms will help pinpoint the problem. Did the
camcorder slip into 4-channel mode or something?

I would doubt it. The audio and video information are
interleaved frame by frame and disruption of the bitstream
sufficient to mute the audio would almost certainly blank
the video (or at least cause visible "pixelization" ).

I'd be suffering from hysterical deafness (and blindness) if I had
to do 40 weddings in a season! Unless the picture is also suffering
from concurrent degradation or blanking, I would NOT use the
abrasive head cleaner as a solution to this problem.

If you are truly hearing the wireless audio in the headphones
while recording, but not when playing back, I'd first suspect a
problem (open circuit, etc.) inside the camcorder.

On this particular model, what gets printed to tape has very little to do
with what you hear during shooting... it's a far cry from e-e monitoring.
Always playback a section before you decide something is in the can.

Thanks for the opinions. Sounds very on target. Humbly, Ed

One thing to look out for in a PD 150 is the strong correlation between

audio dropout problems and worn video heads. If you have alot of hours

on the video heads they may need replacing --- and the first signs of this
are

problems with the audio. signs can be: audio dropping out for a few seconds,

DV tape edge damage and the inability for other devices NOT playing tapes
shot on

the pd150.

This may NOT be your problem, but it happens all the time: My 150 needed a
new

video head and it hurt: cost me over $600, but it was worth it totally.

Didn't someone else report changing levels on a PD150 a few months back?
