Hi,

I have a video (AVI) that contains an xvid video stream and an mp3 audio
track. Although the video plays fine with my players, and G-SPOT says all
is fine, I cannot use the AVI directly as the source for audio (this is what
I usually do). The error is "File ... can not open, or unsupported".

I want to make an (S)VCD out of it (not sure what the difference in size
is - and my computer is slow - but I am willing to test).

Can anybody give me any pointers? Thanks in advance,

When i get that error with TMPGEnc i simply use VirtualDub to demux the
original video into separate audio and video streams - then use the audio
and video streams as source in TMPGEnc.
Set VirtualDub to use it's Direct Stream Copy Mode so it doesn't alter the
original streams.

Martin.

Open AVI in goldwave and save as wav file
http://www.goldwave.com/

VirtualDub will also do this, goldwave is just a great audio tool to
have around

You sure its not XVID with AC3 audio like all XVID I've seen are.
In that case youu'll need TMPGen AC3 Plugin or use
AC-3 ACM Decompressor by fccHandler to get wav file

I tried VirtualDub. Finding the Direct Stream Copy Mode took me a little
while, but it seems to be snugged into a different menu, am I correct?
Either way the audio came out the same, with the same size, and as
VirtualDub warned me when I opened the file, the audio and video became
off-set after some time.

But got the problem fixed now (not using VirtualDub, though, see my later
post).
