We have a user who has the following problem: After they connect to
their machine via remote desktop (from home), when they return to work
and plug in a USB device such as a Palm, XP will no longer recognize
that the device is plugged in and they must reboot their computer. Any
solutions to this?

Try logging off of the machine (instead of disconnecting)...
