Seeking program for creating video clips from main DVD hol..

I'd like to create a short video clip of about 10 minutes from my main
2 hour holiday video. This would be like a trailer video.
To do this I'd copy the highlight bits of my holiday DVD.
What would be a suitable program for doing this?
I'm hoping to find a program that won't take up much hard disk space
as I only want to create a 10 minute video.

I'm also seeking a program that will take photos from a DVD video.
Some programs only save single frames in BMP photo format I'd perfer
to save frames in jpg photo format.
