I have an IBM Thinkpad 600E laptop, 366 MHz, happily run an Evertech
Fireline Cardbus Firewire card, and am able to capture video from a
Sony TRV730 camcorder, or access a firewire hard drive. I would like
also to be able to interface with USB 2.
My brother has a Thinkpad T23 (which has USB 2.0 built in) laptop and
needs firewire. So I'm thinking of buying a Firewire / USB 2 cardbus
card and giving my brother the Evertech. One purchase, two problems
solved.
There are a lot of these available on ebay, but many of them seem
unbranded, so I am naturally suspicious. I don't want to spend a lot
of money, but I'd like to get something that works for me. The base
requirements are:
-- captures video over Firewire!
-- doesn't get too hot
-- USB 2 works
I think that in all cases the external devices will have their own
juice, so I won't be trying to power the devices from the cardbus.
I'd like to know which cards are good ... and which cards are bad!
TIA.
I've tried looking for comparitive reviews on the www, but either
there's a high noise-to-signal ratio, or I'm using the wrong search
terms:
firewire "USB 2" cardbus hot (or heat)
