I have been a loyal Tom's fan for a couple of years and every year I have had to witness the objectification of women come Christmastime. Frankly, this year's model, Teresa Noreen, photographed biting some phallically reminiscent USB device, is the height of tastelessness.
I have come to Tom's for its objective take on technology, but unfortunately I'm not sure if I will continue to frequent this site considering the smutty representation of women you people are giving in order to market your holiday gift guide (you do realize that some children will be frequenting this guide, do you not?).
As a teacher I see the injury that such advertisements and depictions of women have had and continue to have on our children. Girls already feel that they are only valued for their looks and with marketing ploys like yours they are sexualized from an early age as well. Do you really want your daughters, sisters, and mothers to be viewed solely as the objects of sexual gratification, that they cannot be taken seriously outside of the context of male sexuality? Should a young girl feel only redeemed when she acts like an abused, emotionally destroyed, zero self esteem, drug induced sex slave and plays up to a camera as if she were a starlet in a trashy porn video. It makes me sick to think that in 2005 people find this type of crap acceptable in the mainstream.
Correct me if I'm wrong but Tom's is not a porn site. This is not the perception one of your visitors would have seeing these disturbed and disturbing images. I am ashamed to say that I actually participated in your questionnaire and find it offensive that the information be couched in such a disgusting manner. While you buttress all the American stereotypes concerning women, do these images not reinforce similar stereotypes concerning the sexual immaturity and retardation of computer aficionados in such a regrettable and stark manner?
I'm sorry for the strong tone and language but I am incensed and tired of the ubiquitous tendency in the repressed American media to sexually objectify women while ascribing masculine aloofness. And, to wit, you certainly don’t seem even aware of your transgression against those of the female persuasion, let alone contrite.
Have some class and remove those ridiculous images as they not only harm our society's perception of women (yes, your families!) but besmirch your own hard won reputation for excellence in technological reportage.
Wake up! I pity the women in your lives if you choose to keep these images for your gift guide. But more importantly, I pity that you will indoctrinate a society that already is so very dehumanizing in so many ways.
Sincerely,
K. Sturnker
Dude, prepare to get royally buttfucked....
No lube either. Try to wipe your phallus clean of pus, serum, blood and any other bodily fluid (yours or someone else's).
So? I do enjoy seeing nice ladies and I don't think that they are sexual toys. Maybe I'm more balanced that I believe I was..
I don't know how old you are, nor if you're a man or woman. I'm a man and 38. While I like looking at nice ladies (who don't), when I see one, I don't feel the need to "play" with her or to abuse of her. This is called hypocrisy, putting the fault to the ladies behaviours instead of looking at the whole scocial problem.
Girls are being raped, blame the ads.
peoples are becoming bigger, blame McDonalds.
Peoples are getting killed, blame music and video game.
...
I do see nice woman and I don't feel the need to rape them.
I do care about my healt, so I don't have any problem with my weigh and I go at McDonalds sometime.
I do play game and listen to rock music and I don't feel about getting out and killing peoples.
I'm fucking tired about peoples that, in the sake of protecting the innocent, are making my life miserable.
So, start educate your children(if you have any) to your value , instead of dumping them in kindergarden where they'll be educated by anybody. Start cooking them good lunch and go out to play with them instead of dumping them in fron of a TV or a video game. Start teaching them about respect of women an man and enjoy beautiful in a respectfull way, and we won't need anybody to whine about something that is natural.. human beauty. Social problem are not the fault of those ads, but much more about society itself..
He's probably feeling guilty about having sex with one of his underaged students.

Is this the work of a literati? The eloquence, form, and content smack of a poet. Are you published? Perhaps in Hustler?
Ooops, I'm sorry. I know what you are. . .misogynists!
It appears that the rectum will likely be your only source of future stimulation since no self-respecting woman would ever associate let alone be intimate with you.

This is the result of closings of public mental institutions. I'm sure your peers would have preferred someone like you teach their children, hmm?
| Quote : Social problem are not the fault of those ads, but much more about society itself.. |
I feel there is wisdom here. And I agree with you, but you must concede that those ads are not created in a vacuum. Those ads are a result of the "society itself". So, change the messages in the ads and you will eventually change the soceity.
Additionally, if you spread goodwill and respect for all people then people and society will likely see the logic in it and adopt these values, because everyone likes to be treated with respect and the benefit of the doubt. On the other hand if people simply spread hatred, ill-will, and pain (a sign of their own glaring insecurities and phobias-see responses to thread for examples) then society will likely reflect suc attitudes and values. Other than those incapable of rational thought or behaviour, who need to be first provided with intensive therapy (once again for examples right here n this thread, see posts by Black_Cat, Wingding), human beings will always avoid noxious behaviour or alienate the perpetrators.
Society is made up of individuals and their actions. So, live the world you want!
Peace.
The world is indeed a place of idolatry. A lot of people are mislead and fall from the path of righteousness when blinded by all the distraction that surrounds us. I can now rest safe in my bed knowing that your superior intellect and moral incorruptibility are here to show us the way. So in summing up, you have made your point now STFU. Some, if not most, of us here are actually intelligent enough to realise that women should not be treated in the manner you describe. We all they know they should not be treated at all, merely kept in their place.
On a more serious note. Women, like men, are here for one purpose and one purpose only. That is of course to reproduce. If you could just for one second remember that you are nothing but a baldy monkey and that sex and it's general outcome is all you are here for, you may just be able to get over your self. Sex should be the only thing on your mind.
Just what we need. Another pseudo-intellectual who has no idea who he's up against.
Nick his wheels, my scouse friend.

If you change the society, you won't need to penalize those who are normal and enjoy those ads with respect and are pleased by human beauty.

Did you ever hear: Those who speak more do less? I can understand that Winding comment here can be scary for uninitiated, but once you understand the game, you find it fun to play. I bet you didn't read the stickies at the top of that page. Too bad for you.
This forum is not new. You can see that I've registered in 2000. While we can engage in totally useless freaking weird discussion, we know when to stop. If one goes too far, somebody here, and I'm not speaking about moderators, but current users that simply want to have fun telling immorals stories without any censorship, will put him at its place. If he don't listen, and keep going with its unrespectful speech, he'll be banned. To keep that freedom, we have to keep anydiscussion into respect of the human behind the personnage that appears here.
We have some women here. If you can read some post by qoop, you'll see what I mean. While we've said gross thing with her, and about her too, based on the stories here, and even if I cannot speak for every one here, I'm pretty sure that if anyone here ever meets her, that would be in a respectful friendly way and not only about having sex with her, This even include Wingding and Blackcat. Even if most of the time, discussion were around sexual content.
This is the same about the ads you,re talking about. balanced peoples will just get over them. Those who are sick won't. And if it is not the ads that will have them them to go crazy, that will be something else.
I rather put more effort at hunting sick peoples that putting effort to make my life miserable by removing fun parts of it..
I'm donning my blue Lacoste tracksuit as we speak.
The fuckers wheels will be on sale in greaty market before morning.

You know, I think I may just add some extra ventilation to the to the front windows while I'm there.
Will you have time to leave a big steaming jobbie on his dashboard? I mean that would really add a touch of class.
If you don't torch it afterwards, we'll be very disappointed in you.

Easiest job I've ever had. Although I am going to have problems selling wheels from a 2CV in the boozers around here. Correct on the fish call, also all waste materials neatly placed outside of house for recycling and saving of the planet.

Any links to this abused hardware ?
I wonder if it stinks of fish.
I am getting a bit pissed off with you. Either post this in one spot and stick to it or don't post it at all. I am going to re-post my response to you and delete your other posts and hope that you can stop spamming the forum from now on.

I see just as much if not more going to my local university or shopping mall.

THAT'S what she's blithering about? Gamble she's a 200lb lesbo then. Jealousy, that'll be it.
Damn my children are better looking and I think my USB device is larger

Yes I totally agree with you , that picture is totally tasteless . Now , I think we both agree , that if it would have been a vibrating dildo attached to the USB port of the computer , it would have been much more in good taste . Plus much more usefull . I to am mortified at that add as you are .
I think we both agree that sex should not be talked about or shown in any fashion . Let them kiddies learn it like we did , in back seats of cars , woods , motel rooms , etc . Ahhh yes the good old days .
There's nothing like losing your virginity in a toilet at a truck stop. Ahhhh....the good ol' days.
Is that how you intend you lose yours?

On many issues I'm a feminist politically. The model you refer to was paid and paid well. Those in the THG marketing/advertising department
requested not demanded she participate in such photography. The model was free to say yes or no to such photography if she felt it was an afrront to her own sensibilities. THG utilised a seductive pose for the model, sure, but to associate the holding of a USB device as being "phallically reminiscent" is this case is pyscho-sexual fantasy. A male model in a g-string waving a keyboard in front of his genitals would be phallic.

Its hardly smut. You are exaggerating in the utilisation of that word and its erroneous of you to do so. You are administering your own perceived emotions to the picture of the model and misapplying the use of words in your post to represent said emotions. This is irrational, and by default, inflammatory on your part. Children reading the holiday buyers guide will see a seductive picture but unless they're sociological or cultural geniuses they will not be able to adequately break down said picture into the same critiquing segments as you've applied here in your thread. Again, this is fantastical on your part to believe this may be so.

You are talking about one picture and applying it to a society wide problem. To suggest that the THG buyer's guide picture is contributing to the cultural/societal demise of young women is erroneous in the extreme. Do you make the same argument for a corporation's depiction of men at the feet of women in advertisements for expensive perfume? Does that contribute to the masculinity crisis amongst teenage boys? If we are all indeed vicitims of a lifestyle obsessed culture then I can assure you modern-day marketing cuts both ways for both sexes. You also conveniently bypass the importance of family in the raising of a child. Societal influences are one thing, but if a young girl is suffering from the list of frailties that you listed then I can assure you its not solely the fault of marketing/advertising gurus and it is surely not the fault of one picture at THG.

This is not a porn site and its ludicrous, albeit in a humerous manner, to suggest so. The image[s] are "disturbed" and "disturbing"? Outrageous! That is as far-fetched a statement as I've ever read regarding stereotypical imagery. It is absolutely ridiciulous to suggest that the THG buyers guide reinforces the: 'stereotypes concerning the sexual immaturity and retardation of computer aficionados'. What small stereotypical minority you might be referring to have been depicted as such not because of a picture at THG but because of the stereotyping by the mass media in portraying male computer users as porn-hungry, sex-crazed, womanising freaks.
| Quote : I'm sorry for the strong tone and language but I am incensed and tired of the ubiquitous tendency in the repressed American media to sexually objectify women while ascribing masculine aloofness. An argument could be made to agree with your first sentence but the latter part of that paragraph is absolute tripe! To suggest that THG should be embarrassed, or worse, ethcially culpable, because of the picture you refer to being posted by them as being amoral is nothing short of political correctness with fascist overtones.
| Quote : Have some class and remove those ridiculous images as they not only harm our society's perception of women (yes, your families!) but besmirch your own hard won reputation for excellence in technological reportage.

THG "excellence in technological reportage" is not harmed by the picture[s] in the THG buyers guide. Its perceived or earned respect in this area is completely independent of the posting of such a picture and to suggest otherwise is the misapplication of intellectual rhetoric.
Your verbose, erroneous diatribe while heartfelt, is mistaken and incorrect. If you want real change then I suggest you do what minorities like the feminist movement in the United States, Australia, UK, Canada etc. did in the 50s and 60s:- lobby your democratically elected officials for rational and practical change in the areas you feel require societal adjustment. But dont come down here expecting to change the world by incorrectly calling for THG to change a picture in their holiday buyers guide.
Maybe that the woman in the THG article will be everything about a woman that some computer nerds will ever see. So, I think that THG should be praised to help some looser to actually have a life ...
Kaman Sturnker. I noticed when I clicked on your title name that you put absolutely no detail in your bio regarding the person that you are. What kind of support do you hope to curry for yourself if you are not willing to first and foremost share a few benign details.
I understand you're a teacher, thats great, I respect and admire those who nobly go about that profession. But you must understand that this is a community here and its one we enjoy immensely; those who walk in pissed and overzealous in their approaches are just as quickly shown the door.
