I am not on a rant but I am honestly very clueless it would seem in regards to players hacking online. It would appear that Server owners and organizations that provide connections to these online games L.O.V.E hackers ?
I know R.C used to game online for a favourite game years ago with his son and that is about the time I started to online game but it is seriously messed up out there right now.
Is it because the game consoles provide cheats for their games and have for years for home version play, is that why the new generation of gamers online seem to think it is not cheating to hack against other players in multiplayer games online ?
Players that play stock pay money for computer upgrades so their own computer is fast enough so they can compete and they most probably pay for the best internet connection they can get in their area so they can compete online. In most cases a good gaming rig built at home is an upgrade of an upgrade and can cost into the thousands over a few years plus that $40.00 to $80.00 some bucks for the internet connection not to mention putting the cash down on the games themselves and then tooling around the internet downloading patch this and patch that so they have an up to date version.
90% of the guys are stock players there to enjoy a game and some online comraderi it is the 10% that seem bent on destroying the game for the rest of them. I got to tell you some of the shiit I have seen hackers pull online is nuts. Everything from connection hackers that try to take out the game server or attack other players connections to downright intrusion into other players computers and files jacking everything and anything they want out of the target machine.
To top all that nonsense off It seems as if the server owners the Head ADMIN and his henchmen are hell bend on stifling anyone who says anything about hacking and will kick or ban the dissident and keep the hacker around @ss backwards and upside down.
Not what I wanted to say and not going to elicit any tears from the reader but this problem online with hackers is so large it cannot be addressed anymore. Used to be we had a few multiplayer games that thousands of players used to play regularly and everyone used to know most of each other but now there are hundreds of multiplayer games online and users that cheat change their user names every 15 minutes.
The old school of gamers still have the same user names they had 10 years ago perhaps they have had their hack in the light of the sun that so many years ago that they just play now on skill alone and cant be bothered with the additional few points a wall hack or aim-bot cheat would afford them because on most days they can score the damn points based on acquired skills.
So we say the kids are hacking well I would agree that the kids are hacking but they use software scripts that others have written. Some of these cheats bypass anti hacking software provided by large game corporations such as VAC for the Steam network so we can understand that it is not just the kids hacking it is at an Engineering and advanced computer science level that the developers of these hacks are coming from.
I find it hard to believe that a computer engineer that is bondable and works in high tech for good money would indulge in such a thing but they in fact must be because lets face it 12 year old kids are not learning C++ in grade 5 or at home on their own without the right emulation equipment provided in computer lab class in College or University.
There needs to be a serious look into this online abuse not so much to protect the damn games but to find out Why people are acting this way in the general population and what type of social environment develops the type of mind that would sit in a game server and jack 30 other players computers around.
You need to get laid (again).
Just spending the time to type all that stuf in, is just pathetic.
I suspect it is the game developing company itself creating most of vaious cheats and hacks.
The rational: game developers are making money on selling the game itself, new versions and add-ons. So, in their best interest is to attract as many people as possible. Game developer is interested to sell their games to honest players and dishonest ones too. They do not care if you stop playing online because of the abuse. Let's face it, most cheaters are 12-15 years old boys - THE MAIN TARGET AUDIENCE for game developers. So, game with no cheats won't be so attractive to those kind of customers, hence less economically viable.
Have a look at companies who do not sell game itself, but rather sell online gaming services, such as Aces High and etc. Those companies are making money on online gaming, so it is in their best interest to protect honst gamers, as company get paid by them, and if cheaters will abuse game, then honest players will stop playing-stop paying. That is why there are very limited number of cheats for those kind of games.
At the same time the online gaming service companies also suffer from abusers if the game implies some kind of routine, easily automated tasks to inmprove stance/level/credit. Those tasks are simply get automated by cheaters. In this case I'd rather side with the cheaters as it is company fault to create a gaming environment where you advance by routine tasks execution, not skill/experience. I would avoid those kind of games on the first place.
That is my opinion.

And it sucks. Big time. I'm sure you and SoD will get along fine.
Yeah, i am organising the GFX redevelopment of an open source clone of an old game OpenTTD (from the original TTD)
the coders cloned the original game then added network game ability for over the internet.
99% of the people wanted to play honest games, then all sorts of people nobody knew about started going onto the servers and messing it up for people. they wern't even doing it to win, they were doing it because they liked to ruin fun.
like the kid in the playground that breaks someones toy, throws a ball away, or stomps on a sandcastle.
i don't understand it either. and its suprising where they pop up.
an open source game, you would hope would have a more respectfull community than some of these others. but nope, just as crap.
Alltaken
SoD,
I'm not on online gamer, but I must admit that wasn't a bad read .
You bring up what seems to be some Valid points. Although not a gamer myself one can't help but to hear about the cheats you mention. I suppose that if someone wanted to use these so called shortcuts on their own machine at home it would be one thing but using them in a competitive nature with others is definitely less than honest.
While I laughed at Mac's comments I must say that, like Russ, I also enjoyed the read.
I sometimes play the original Unreal Tournament online and I can see what you're saying, Sod.
Half the reason for me not wanting to play online games is because of hacking - the other half is because I've got a shitty adsl connection speed.
Try online chess. No aimbots, no wall hacks just acquired skills. Best of all, with the problems you describe in your post, you'll be used to getting your ars[b][/b] kicked by a bunch of 10 year old dimwits.
I'd like to play you in chess Tom one day.
I dig chess although its been a while since I've played.
Great game it is though.
Bomber: Name me a game.
Tom: Chess.
Bomber: It can be anything. Any game at all.
Tom: Chess.
Bomber: Draughts, poker, any game at all.
Tom: Chess.
Bomber: Subbuteo, Snakes and Ladders, you name it.
Tom: Chess.
Bomber: Monopoly, maybe? I'll let you go first.
Tom: *Chess*.
Bomber: So you like a bit of chess then, do you?
You just reminded me of this scene from Red Dwarf.
I know that scene!
But how I reminded you of it, I dont know.
You'd whip my arse, I'm sure. But I've got this German opening that I've worked on over the years and it rumbles a good deal of player's games.
I'll bet you open with the old 'King Richard' knights errant opening, eh? Eh?
Yeah, I thought so!

Don't see how annexing Poland will help you.
Jeez, we dont have any Polish lads down here do we, Tom?
But not dissimilar to the successful Nazi advancement is the notion that your opening should be purely aggressive so as to overwhelm the half-hearted defensive player which makes up the bulk of conventional chess players out there. In the realm of chess playing, of course, this is all metaphorical - to talk about actual historical conflicts that is, and then apply them to a tedious, complex game.
Thanks for saving this thread guys
Enjoyed the read.
So, wanna play a game of *Chess* with me? 8)
Sure!
I've never played it online before though. Are there free servers for chess?
There's plenty (I think). You do the google work and let me know where to join you
Btw, no need for an online server, if you can just find a free app that does point to point connections. That's probably easier than finding a free server.
No, send me £50.00 and I'll sort it out for you.
Are you desperate for cash, again?
I'm more desperate for some spare time. So let him do the work.
It's my great love of taking money of simpletons that has enabled all my free time.
Ok, ok. I should have enough sense to realise that chess would be free on the internet etc.
...*Signs 50 quid cheque to tomsmart, care of Scouser Land UK...*
Alright, I'll see what I can track down and then we'll all have a game.
Fellas, there's a wealth of this out there:
http://www.freechess.org/
http://www.flyordie.com/chess/
http://gameknot.com/
There's a plethora of sites. I think we just need timing for online play or like Mac suggested email type play etc.
I'll keep investigating.
I think Tomsmart's just kidding about being able to play chess. I mean after all, he's from Liverpool [/unkind]
LMAO!!!!
The only Grand Master from Liverpool is a Grand Master Car Thief. [/not nice]
You have just earned my first ever issued
BASTAGE!!!
Thank you, thank you, I'm honoured. Although, given your scouse origins, I'm sure you'll nick it back at some point. [/stereotyping]
honestly its hard to get on a server nowadays without someone hacking, even if they have punkbuster/whatever. i feel if the person still sux ass and cant win with hacking, why should i bother. i dont hack video games and such because its fucking pointless to do so, its all a fucking game, so why bother?
alot of people give hackers bad names because the misuse found knowledge they have and use it to harm other people. hacking is not a crime, unless it is used in a malicious manner. free acquisition of knowledge should be granted to everyone. but who the fuck cares what i say anyways?

Actually nobody....[/truth]
You have deliberately used a person's social identity as a basis for degrading remarks.
Well done
It was the right and proper thing to do. He'd have been disappointed if we hadn't.
Not a problem my friend.
***adds Rob's house to Christmas burglary list***
Once again, a steaming jobbie would be appreciated.
Mash it into his keyboard.
Keyboard and comp are probably the only items or value in the peasant brummy fcukers little mud hut.[/unnecessary]
And those were flogged to me by a shellsuit wearing scally n'all. [/making it worse]
It's the old one two trick. Our kid sells it, I nick it back.[/insider tip]

That and brummies are the only fcukers dumb enough to still buy Betamax.[/tell it like it is
Speaking of which, can you still get me some of those betmax blank tapes? The shop down the round stopped selling them for some unknown reason. [/asking for it]
I have to say, reading this thread has been most enjoyable...I love the use of accents and slang! *sigh* me<---in heaven!
Top o' the marnin' to ye! [/Irish shite]

Shall we shag now or shag later? [/Austin Powers]
You'll have to join the queue mate. Mind you, she's practically full to the brim with assorted man-fat.
Be like stirring a bucket of porridge at the battle of Bannockburn.
That sounds marginally more appealing than porking that old minger. Especially if the porridge is cold and lumpy.
