I am currently playing a little bit around on my IPAQ 5450 to play
videos on it.

I tried to convert them with Microsoft Movie Maker 2 in wmv format and
use the built in Media player for watching them on the Ipaq.

I also used PocketMVP to watch xvid files so far.

Has anyone

1.) A better tool selection
or
2.) tips how I should convert the film for best results on the pocket PC
(resolution - I would like to see it in full screen of course, frame
rate, data rate, etc...)

I am pretty sure someone has already spent hours in finding out the best
practise on that!

Thanks,

bye
Marcus.

Snapstream Beyond TV 3 is very nice. It has a 21 day demo, worth checking
out. Windows media encoder works well also.

Use Tmpg encoder http://www.tmpgenc.net/e_main2.html/ on your PC to create
mpegs. Download the PocketPC templates
http://forum.pocketmovies.net/view [...] =3415#3415 (read the article
there to it's very good) to go with it Download PocketTV from
www.pocketTV.com again a free dowload to play them.

Sorted!!

Enjoy

I agree - don't use movie maker, windows media encoder works much nicer.
use any of the preset pocket pc templates (play around with the options - of
course you have to decide for yourself the right compromise between quality
vs. file size.) DrDivx also does a nice job of converting to divx and has
built in presets for pocketPC's DVDtoPPC is a great program for converting
your DVD library. It is an all-in-one - 1 step process to convert your
dvd's to wmv format ( it's missing some functionality and bells and
whistles - but does a nice job anyway) and I also agree with the snapstream
beyondTV. use it like TiVo to automatically record your favorite TV shows
( you pick the file format and quality settings) and it will automatically
re-convert a copy fit for your PPC while you sleep. Haven't missed a
Sopranos all year thanks to it !!

If the 5450 is running Pocket PC 2002 instead of Windows Mobile 2003 do not
use Windows Media Encoder because the sound won't work on WMP 8.5. Windows
Movie Maker will make WMV files compatible with Pocket PC 2002 though.

Try also BetaPlayer for DivX and XviD videos - it rocks.

windows media encoder works great for 2002 devices. just make sure in the
properties box that you are using windows media 7 codec ( which I believe is
the default in the pocketpc profiles) rather than the windows media 9 codecs

There are profiles that you can download from the MS site for the
movie maker system for PPC format. They set up the correct screen
size,bit rates, etc.
