I am looking at getting an MP3 player from my parents for XMas. Nothing too terribly expensive. I would like it to be drag & drop, and have the ability to create playlists. I do not want to use iTunes, and would prefer not to be locked into the software for the player. Using device as a portable HDD would be a nice benefit. Looking for something with at least a few Gb.
Any recommendations? Looking @ creative zen micro, but I heard you have to use their software, and possibly manually set aside part of the HDD for file storage.
I know the ipod has the U2 edition and all that.....anybody know if they're making a White Sox Championship edition? If so, you should get that one, man.
Posting links to off si... wait, no, we still run this place, and this is still my job. It's an MP3 player, it's very small and one needs to see a pic to see just how I could have lost it for five minutes on my desk...
I use the Firmware without WMP10 connectivity. I prefer to install a small driver and no my Zen pops up as a drive that I can copy music (and only music to). You can set it to become a regular disk drive.
Hell yeah! The Jeep loves playing in the snow! I did a doughnut in the driveway the other night for the kids... Well, half a doughnut.... Pulled in to the driveway, flipped a quick 180, then backed into the garage!
My drive isn't wide enough for me to pull that stunt in imy truck.... I've had it pushing snow up over the bumper so far this year, but haven't got it into hood high snow, yet!!!! [shrug]
I don't really see paying the money for so little storage, but the Zen Micro Photo is calling my name.... But 5x the storage for $20 more with the Touch?
(looking for better prices and price on Vision M)
Edit: Any opinion on Toshiba gigabeat® MEG-F20? Crutchfield has it in stock, on sale, and I get 10% off. ($225)

I own a Zen micro....GREAT MP3 Player.
You can build playlists within th mp3 player unlike ipods, you can drag and drop (you need a firmware update but thats easy and you do it before you put music on it) and then all computers see it as a external HDD and you can drag and drop.
You dont HAVE tro set aside for storage....its an option that you CAN set aside part of it for file storage.
When it comes to the size....think about it, 8GB is HUGE. Your battery is only going to last 8hours you dont need 50,000 hours of music. Honestly a 4GB MP3 player stocked with your fav songs is MORE then enough.
When i bought mine i got my zen micro for $200 and i could have gotten a 20GB one for $30 more....thats a great deal for someone who would use it. But its not a good deal if you never use the extra space. Its just $30 wasted.
This is all fine and good, but apparently there are NO Zen Micro Photos available... =o(
Actually, I think that the local Best Buy has one... Now I just gotta tell the parental units and see if that's what shows up at their place on XMas day... 8)
Here in the U.K we have a saying "cold enough to freeze the balls of a brass monkey", occasionally shortened to "brass monkeys". Is your phrase of the same origin?
I have the Creative Zen Vision:M in the office at the moment (listening to the FM radio on it at the moment as a matter of fact…) and if you're willing to shell out the $330 or so for it I'd say it's worth a go. I've yet to stress test it, but creative claim 4 hours video playback and 14 hours of audio, as well as picture viewer and such… though if you're not going to use video or have little interest in it then I'd say you might be better suited going for a cheaper audio-only player.

I dunno, we will say its hot as balls, cold as balls, something is ______ as balls....i have heard almost everything from fun as balls, scary as balls, and my personaly favorite gay as balls.
none make any sense but people say it.
And Aaron, that picture still freaks me the hell out.
I would not mind having the option for the M, but I have yet to see it anywhere. I tried Froogle and such, and it didn't know what I was talking about...
Video would be nice, but not necessary at this point in time... When I would be using it, I would not be watching videos.... Plus, most of the videos I have probably should not be out in public... So, I guess then I will pass on the M...
Aye, if you're looking for an MP3 player to play music then paying extra for a video player might be folly... heck, players are so much like PC's at this stage that you'll only be upgrading again next year, so consider it then
As for not seeing it anywhere, Creative's boys warned me at the launch that they didn't expect to see very high volumes in shops until after Christmas.
