I am a novice at this. I have a Sony TRV-38 that takes very nice looking
video, and I'd like to burn what is on the camcorder to a DVD. I am using
Studio 9 Plus. It seems to capture alright, with 0 dropped frames. However
when I play it back the audio does not alway match the video. Sometimes yes,
a lot of times no. I'm using the Full DVD setting, which gives me an AVI
file. I tried using the MPEG setting... but that was even worse out of
sync. I'm willing to do what ever research I need to do, but can someone
point me into the right direction? I'm not highly tecnical but I'm
persistant. I haven't a clue as to what I am doing wrong and what I need to
correct. Would this be a codex problem or hardware... or different settings
(whatever they would be) or WHAT???? My computer is OK I think... getting
somewhat geriatric, but not ready for retirement yet. Help???

I've had the exact same problem, as have many. There is apparently a
mismatch that can happen between the audio and video stream, that many
video editors cannot/will not correct.

VideoReDo, however, does. Check out their trial as www.videoredo.com,
and see if it solves your problem. If it does, and you buy a license,
tell them they should give me a competitive upgrade deal so that I can
feel like I didn't entirely waste my money on TMPEGEnc MPEG Editor.

Thank-you, this looks interesting. I will definately try it. Oddly enough
I tried capturing using Roxio Easy Media 7.5 and I had no mismatch between
audio and video. Yet... I did before. Is this another case of random
grimlins in the computer? Thank-you so much for suggesting something that
might help!!!! Truthfully... should I recommend you if I do buy it???

You may need to provide details of HOW you captured the
video, and WHAT you used to play it back, etc. The devil
(and likely the solution) is in the details.

VideoReDo won't help when working with AVI files. It
appears to be dedicated to MPEG only.

I found it to have a clunky user interface, and it would not
do what I needed to do. Dunno what the big buzz is about
that program.

Ah, Richard Crowly is right -- VideoReDo is not for use with AVI files.
Sorry about that.

I'm not sure if anyone suggested this or not, but are you capturing to
a dedicated hard drive for video? That could cause the sync to be off
when you play back because of data rate.

Are you capturing with the camera's firewire port or analog port? It's
very common w/ analog capture.

In my experience another reason is computer memory, 512mb is least i
would recommend.

Those can add up to sync drift that you experience. Feel free to email
me outside the forum and i'll try to help you further.
