Can 2 Firewire cards in same computer cause a problem?

I installed a dedicated 3-port Firewire card in my computer to see if
capturing through it makes a difference with a problem I'm having. However,
I'm now having a problem with the computer locking up.

I was using the firewire port on an Audigy soundcard, which is still
installed. Could/should the presence of 2 cards with Firewire ports cause a
problem? Whatever problems I was having, it never locked up before.

The brand of the dedicated Firewire card is Stratictech, bought as Wal Mart
if it's of any significance.

Thanks for all shared wisdom.

What computer slot did you install it in? The slots (#1 or 2) that are
closer to the processor and video card should be where that card is
installed. Those generally have priority motherboard bandwith over
cards lower in the layout. So the lockup could be when you are bringing
in alot of data and computer cant' handle the bandwith.

As for the audigy, you should be ok w/ 2 cards installed. A brand name
card is always better than a wal-mart brand, but it should work.If you
have a PCI-X 100mhz or 133mhz slot (check your manual), install the
firewire card in that one. If it's a standard 33/66mhz then install in
slot 1 or 2.

Another problem could lie in the hard drive speed and data transfer
rate. If you are capturing to your system drive, then that could be the
cause of lockups because drive can't handle the bandwith needed for
video capture. If you have a dedicated video capture drive, that could
eliminate your lock-ups if that's what's causing it to do so.

Hope this helps!

Could very well be true, but I've had 2 Firewire cards (from 2 different
vendors with 2 different chipsets) installed in slots 1 and 4 for over a
year with no lockups or other issues.
