VP is power (the header marked +12V)
VG is ground (the header marked GND)

Firewire headers provide 4 pins:
data +
data -
power
ground

And snice there is 2 connections on the header, you have 8 pins (the
ninth is technically a ground but is really just there for locating pin 1).

However, it looks like your case is designed so that only one firewire
port will have power. You would be able to use it for an external
drive, but not for powering an iPod (for example).

Just plug the VP into one of the power headers and the VG into one of
the ground, everything should be fine.

Maybe I'm missing something here, but why are you attaching "case
wires" to the 1394 ports? Would it not make more sense to attach them
to the mainboard headers? I just now started exploring firewire
myself and find a real shortage on information regarding LANs.
