GA-BX2000 loses cmos settings

the above board loses its bios settings after powere is
disconnected...as long as it is connected to the power the settings
hold fine...the error given after a power disconect is "wide range
protection" and it beeps alarmingly like an ambualnce siren until i
load setup defaults in the bios and reboot.....
have tried the following to remedy the problem:

restored the secondary bios
changed cmos battery
flashed the bios to latest version

any tips gratefully accepted

Wide Range Protection
Boot From
Auto Recovery

but thanks for your quick reply
i disable wide range protection boot from auto recovery it then boots
ok ...turn off the juice for 10 seconds and the bios resets to
wide range protection: enabled
halt on bios defects: disable
auto recovery: enable
boot from: main bios
bios recovery: backup to main [greyed out]
all other settings are also reset to the original settings when it was
born..any other input gratefully received...
btw windows 98 seems to be running ok...
i am thinking i have to toss this nice board

Sure sounds like the CMOS batt, B4 I pitched it I would, clean CMOS Batt contacts (I apologize if ya did!).
Make sure the new Batt is good (hold vmeter on batt. for awhile 30, 40 secs to discharge surface charge).
