LAN party requirements

Looking for a little info on LAN setup for gaming -
Can we all bring our laptops to a party,
along with an installed copy of Counter Strike
and play against each other
WITHOUT the need for an internet connection
or the requirement to have the game downloaded
via the Steam website -
