Sure - somebody who makes the Modem. This doesn't sound like a
problem stemming from the OS.

Hi,

The system may get disconnected from the ISP because of various reasons, the
following solution would resolve the issue:

If your modem disconnects frequently from the Internet Service Provider
(ISP), ensure if the "disconnect if idle for" option is deselected. To
deselect the "disconnect if idle for" option, perform these steps:

1. Open the browser window.
2. Click Tools and select Internet Options.
3. Select the Connection Tab.
4. Select the default Dial-Up Connection.
5. Click the Settings button.
6. Click the Advanced button.
7. Deselect the "disconnect if idle for " checkbox.

NOTE: If this "disconnect if idle for" checkbox is deselected, you have to
disconnect from the Internet manually by clicking the Disconnect button in
the Connected To window.

Also, verify that the Call Waiting feature is switched off. To deactivate
the Call Waiting option, perform these steps:

To disable call waiting in Windows XP perform the following steps:

NOTE: The following instructions are only for use on telephone lines that
have the call waiting service.

1. Click on Start Button and then click Control Panel.
2. Double click on the icon labelled Phone and Modem Options
3. In the Window that appears select the Dialing Rules tab and then select
Location and click Edit.
4. In the next Window select General Tab
5. Check on " To Disable call Waiting dial
6. From the drop down box select 70# or *70 and click on Apply button.
7. Click on the OK button to return to Phone and Modem Options, and click on
OK again, and you are done.

You can prevent modem disconnects by refreshing the modem drivers. To
refresh the modem drivers, perform these steps:

1. Click Start, Control panel.
2. Double-Click Systems.
3. Click Hardware Tab.
4. Click Device Manager.
5. Click (+) sign next to Click Modem to highlight it.
6. Right-click on the Modem device listed.
7. Select uninstall
8. Close the Device Manager once they are all removed.

Additionally, you try to delete temporary files from the Temporary Internet
files folder using Internet Explorer, follow these steps:

1. Open an Internet Explorer browser, click Tools on the menu bar
and then select Internet Options.
2. From the General tab, click the Delete Files button under
Temporary Internet files.
3. Select the Delete All Offline Content option and click OK.
4. Click the Clear History button and then click Yes.
5. Click OK to exit the Internet Options window.

The temporary files from the Temporary Internet files folder should be
deleted.

After performing the above-mentioned troubleshooting steps, the modem should
no longer disconnect automatically from the ISP.
