Have a mirror RAID setup but not sure if its working correctly. Its the
onboard RAID that comes with the Asus A7N8X mobo. Its not my bootable drive
( which is a normal IDE drive ) but its where I want to save data that I
want to keep ( thats why its mirrored ). When I boot I see the RAID showing
a mirror striped set but when I get into WinXP it only shows the one SATA
drive. I installed the SATA Raid utility that came with the motherboard and
sent myself the configuration information and it shows as follows :
Computer Information -
Name A7N8X
Microsoft Windows XP 5.1
Service Pack 1
NO SII ADAPTERS FOUND!!!"
Now it looks like the mirror RAID is not working . I can see nothing when I
go into disk management ( well I can see the IDE, the one SATA drive and
CDROM ) so how do I know if my data is been protected by been copied to the
other Sata drive?
btw: both sata drives used for the raid are the same Maxtor 120gig drives

It sound like it is set up for raid 0 which is striped across 2 disks.
The 2 disks will appear as one. You need raid 1 if you are mirroring. Does
the SATA disk you see have a total capacity which equals both SATA drives?
If so this is probably the case.

No , it only shows the size of one of the drives. Just rebooted so
I could enter the RAID Configuration Utility and it shows as
Set0 Sil Mirrored Set
and both drives are listed there but when it finally boots into WinXP
I cant find anything that shows that its working and that last line
in the Sata Utility installed in WinXP shows
NO SII ADAPTERS FOUND
Now that has me worried thats its not working. Should you be able to see
both drives in a mirrored RAID set under Win XP ?

Sorry for the confusion. I just realised I used the wrong jargon when I used
the word
stripe but I was going from my memory instead of rebooting and writing down
the correct
details. Anyway, removed the mirror set and both drives then showed under XP
and both
had the same data on them so them so the mirror RAID was working but for
some strange
reason the utility installed under WinXP wouldn't work correctly ( ie. show
the correct
details )
anyone have a utility for monitoring the mirror RAID under WinXP ?
btw: thx Kawipoo

If mirror raid the o/s will see only the one disk
If the raid has failed you will get a warning on reboot.
The raid utility was this the SataRaid GUI utility? - mine functions fine,
though I must admit I used the GUI utility downloaded from the Silicon Image
site.
