Hi

I'm to record a voice memo with my Ipaq 2210 and I set up the way that the
voice file is save on my SD card. For some reason, the recording stopped on
around 3 mins mark. I just wondering is there anyone experience the same
problem and is there anyway to resolve it?

Thanks

Alex

The built in recorder, last I heard, initially
stores to the main memory object store, and
when you stop recording it copies that to the
memory card. That may have been necessary (not)
on a very old and slow PDA, but today, for instance,
I can easily record mp3 directly to a microdrive,
even at 128 kbps/44100Hz on an old iPAQ 3650, and
not have any problems using the player (/recorder)
in the .sig below.

here's a message I posted a while back, when I encountered the same
problem.... there may be better fixes out there, but I haven't seen
them.....

I think I've found a work-around for the problem with limited recording time
after installing the ROM update..... I noticed that the size of the "Ipaq
file store" is shown as around 3.84meg, the same size as the audio file that
NOTE will record for me on my CF card. I tried putting a large file in the
file store and then making a recording, and was able to go past the 4 meg
size every time!

1. In NOTES, tap OPTIONS and then INPUT OPTIONS. Use the highest quality
recording setting (around 170k/second). This generates large files FAST!

2. While in OPTIONS, select IPAQ FILE STORE as the destination instead of
your card.

3. start recording, let it stop on its own, which will place a 3.7meg file
in the file store. You can leave it named RECORDING1, or change it to
something else, like DUMMY or XXXXXX if you wish, it doesn't seem to
matter....

4. Go back into OPTIONS and change to the CF or SD card as the destination,
depending on what you have inserted.

5. Start another recording, and let it run for 30-60 seconds, then stop.

6. in FILE EXPLORER, take a look at the MY DOCUMENTS directory on your card,
and you should see a file RECORDING1, between 8 and 16meg in size!

7. Delete that file, it was just a test. By using the high quality setting,
you were able to do the test in a minute instead of having to run over 40
minutes at the lowest quality setting, but now you know if it works or not.
Mind did, repeatedly!

8. Go back under OPTIONS and INPUT OPTIONS, and select the quality setting
you normally want to use, so you can get reasonably sized files....

Just leave that "dummy" file in the IPAQ FILE STORAGE. Seems a shame to
waste the space, but for me it's worth getting back decent recording
function, at least until something better comes along.....

I ended up getting Resco's Audio Recorder. It will record in 64bps mp3
format and its own proprietary audio format (I use this one because it has
the best sound quality and best compression, but I must manually decompress
at the pc).

You can find this one at...
