However it will go the next sequence which displays silicon image controller
message an dthen hangs there; will not go through the boot sequence

2. now I switched the hds to silicon image controller and set up the raid0
in silicon image bios. goes through the windows xp instllation. xp asks for
drivers and i provide therm through the floppy. After huge and long sequnce

you had the boot sequence set incorrectly in the boot priority in the bios.
you want to have the boot priority set to ONCHIP SATA for the Intel ICH5R
controller. I would put the drives back onto the Intel controller and set
the boot priority correctly and then give it another go. Have the Intel
drivers, newest available downloaded from their website, available on floppy
and hit F6 to install the drivers when you see the prompt early in the
install process...

what other drives are on the system and what channels are they installed on?

Have you tried raising your DDR voltage to 2.7 or 2.77v? Your symptoms or
very similar symptoms have been reported and resolved in this manner by many
people with an IC7 series motherboard. This is certainly the case with
Corsair RAM as I've had and resolved the problem.
